Due to the current Corona Occupational Health and Safety Regulation and the SARS-CoV-2 Regulation on Protective Measures against Infection (Status June 4th 2021) of the Berlin Senate, we are currently not able to provide our customary service and full range of offers.

Visitors who have had contact with a person suffering from COVID-19 in the last 14 days or who themselves suffer from an upper respiratory tract infection are not allowed to enter the facility. Persons with symptoms of respiratory infection of any severity are not allowed to enter the facility. This can also not be circumvented by a negative test result, the proof of a complete vaccination or a recovered status.

Our open-air library in front of the America Memorial Library is available to you again..

Opening hours:
Monday-Friday 13.30 -19.00
Saturday 12.00-18.00, always providing the weather is fine.

Please note that visitors are subject to the obligation to wear a mask (medical face mask or mouth and nose when entering the open-air library until they are seated at a fixed individual workstation at which the minimum distance to other visitors and to the employees of the ZLB-is guaranteed. WLAN will be available in the outdoor areas, but only during the opening hours of the open-air library, however.

Before your visit, please take note of the following:

  • Unfortunately, we are currently not allowed to offer seating to enable you to linger on our premises. Visits to the library are permitted only for the quick selection, loan, PC-workstation usage (with reservation) and return of media.
  • In the interest of other visitors who may be waiting, please limit your stay to a maximum of 30 minutes.
  • You may only enter the library with a basket, which will be provided at the entrance - the baskets are used to track the total number of visitors. 
  • As from 14/06, we will be making our PC stations available to you again in both buildings. Due to the currently valid distancing regulations, only a limited number of persons may be allowed into the buildings and to occupy these stations. Should you wish to use the PC stations, it is therefore necessary to book a time beforehand. Click here for our reservation system
  • In addition, individual workstations (under observance of the distancing regulations and with a prior reservation) will presumably be available again as from 28/06. More information will be forthcoming later.
  • Tip: should you require media from the stacks, you may order them from home at In this way you will avoid having to wait. Ordered media can only be picked up once a notification of availability has been received. As a general rule, orders will be available on the following workday at the earliest.
  • Unfortunately, you cannot order, read or borrow newspapers, magazines or reading room copies. 
  • The reading rooms of the “Berlin Sammlungen” (Berlin Collections) remain closed.
  • It is possible to order from our external stack.
  • Inter-library loans are possible once again.
  • The piano room and the media booths are closed.
  • The café is closed.
  • Printing is possible with a copy card (self-service).

  • The following media can only be picked up or returned during our service hours (Monday-Friday, 15.00 - 19.00, Saturday 13.00 - 17.00): Media from the Artothek (art lending library, media from “Bibliothek der Dinge” (“library of things”), media with large and special formats, tablets, e-book readers, non-book compound media (CDs, DVDs, tonies, etc.), inter-library loans, board games and console games that are ready for collection.

The wearing of an FFP2 mask when visiting the library is mandatory (indoors).

Please maintain a minimum distance of 1.50 metres from other people - at all times and to all other persons.

Please observe all hygiene guidelines. If you have any cold or flu symptoms, please refrain from visiting the library altogether.

Unfortunately, if you cannot wear a face covering for health reasons, we cannot allow you to enter either of our buildings. Please understand this and contact us by telephone – we will find a solution together.
