Project: sharing knowledge

Children are creating an encyclopaedia of sorts for the Berlin urban community. More and more people from all over the world are bringing new experiences and knowledge to Berlin, raising the question of what we should really know. Children have dared to take a snapshot of this, presenting their questions to both long-established citizens and newcomers alike.

Eight school groups each spend a week at district libraries looking for hidden city knowledge, while a team of teenagers conduct surveys at flea markets, at the football stadium, in parks, at train stations and in shopping areas.

They will use the results – objects, texts, films, artefacts, installations and performances – to create the “Berliner Lexikon der Stadtgesellschaft” (“Berlin Encyclopaedia of Urban Life”), a real-life cabinet of curiosities, which will be presented at the Next Library Conference Berlin in September 2018.
